From the Principal's Desk

6/09/2017
It’s been a great week at Park Avenue! With Thursday 7 September being International Outdoor Education Day our students have been out and about in the great outdoors. Anyone who has seen the impact that learning and playing outdoors has on children knows how powerful such experiences can be. Learning outdoors creates lasting memories, helps build a greater awareness of the environment, provides more opportunities to think independently, and gets children feeling challenged and excited by learning. Children are more active when they play outdoors - it is essential for their healthy development and enjoyment of childhood.

STEM Roadshow
All students in Years 4, 5 and 6 participated in a full day of creative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics activities. The day provided students with great learning activities from shooting their own TV shows to creating claymation movies! While our students were learning, our teachers were making their shopping list for those little items that can contribute to student learning in these essential curriculum areas.

Final Week for Term 3 Reading Groups

This program has been a great success! In our Year One groups alone we have seen gains of 3 to 4 reading levels!  Well done to the students involved, thank you so much to the dedicated team of reading tutors and THANK YOU for getting your children to the morning sessions. Different students are invited to participate each term – keep your eye out for your child’s invitation.

 The Great Race

Students from Year 4 and Year 6 had a great session of collaboration, outdoor activity and problem solving together. Teachers coordinated activities ranging from the mixing of tropical fruit cocktails to casting for fish on the oval … concentration and laughter were clearly a great combination for learning.
