Our school

Park Avenue State School is a physically attractive centre with classrooms fronted by sweeping Queenslander style verandas and established gardens. Our students are drawn from a unique catchment area reaching from the university precinct to the Fitzroy River.

Within the school we provide three key educational programs: primary, early childhood development and Remote Area Teacher Education Program (RATEP).

Teachers, students and our wider community share a strong rapport as partners in learning. Awareness of student abilities and acknowledgement of individual needs are highly valued in our teaching and learning cycle. Students from Park Avenue State School are known for their citizenship and positive community profile.

Classrooms are equipped with the latest in technological learning aids with every classroom accessing a world of learning opportunities through web based resources.

Relationships characterised by mutual respect are at the heart of teaching and learning at Park Avenue State School. Diversity and difference are embraced and we seek to hear the voices of all stakeholders in key decision making processes.

Specialist programs are delivered by experts in their field. Currently our specialist programs include: instrumental music, music curriculum, physical education, learning support and special education.

The student leadership team includes all students in years six and seven. It is led by the school and house captains who are assisted by representatives from each classroom through the student council. Student leaders work with younger students in the school through the ‘Better buddy’ and ‘Reading and writing’ mentor programs.

Our vision

At Park Avenue State School you will see a shared and acknowledged commitment in all teaching and learning endeavours. This is evident through staff and student active engagement, positivity, unity, just do it attitude and school pride.

Our mission

At Park Avenue State School we strive to provide quality educational opportunities in a supportive, nurturing environment which will enable our students to become positive, productive citizens.

Calm schools program

We are committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for students, with opportunities to engage in quality learning experiences. To support this commitment we have put in place a ‘Calm schools’ program. This approach provides strategies to spotlight positive behaviours and explicitly teach students specific skills that will enable them to be in control their own behaviour. It promotes and celebrates our student positive classroom behaviours and learning goals.
